As we settle into the New Year Chief Executive of Wexford County Council Eddie Taaffe has outlined his top priorities for Wexford County Council in 2026, focusing on housing, capital development, and service efficiency. 1. Housing Development The delivery of social, affordable, and private housing is the primary focus for Taaffe, who stressed the importance of not only providing more homes but also ensuring that essential infrastructure accompanies these developments. He emphasized the council’s commitment to delivering as much housing as possible to meet the growing demand across the county. 2. Capital Programme Taaffe’s second priority revolves around advancing Wexford’s capital projects. Notable developments include the start of work on the Endowment Centre in Euras, the Esmond Street project in Gorey, and the Market House in Gorey. The Trinity Wharf site is also set to see progress, alongside the continued development of the South East Greenway. Additionally, efforts will be made to restore key heritage buildings, such as the Ballast Office and the Courthouse in Euras. 3. Service Efficiency and Quality The third priority is ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of key local services. Taaffe aims to streamline housing and road services, maximising resources to deliver high-quality services for Wexford residents. The focus will also be on finding new ways to improve service delivery, ensuring that the county’s services meet the evolving needs of the community. Taaffe’s vision for 2026 is centered on delivering tangible outcomes across housing, infrastructure, and community services, with a clear commitment to improving the lives of Wexford residents.
