Co. wexford to get new garda recruits but numbers still very low
County Wexford has the third lowest number of gardaí per head of capita in the country. That's according to County Councillor Michael Wheelan, who was elected the chairman of the new Joint Policing Committee, which met for the first time yesterday. He says they were informed that 5 new gardai are to be assigned to the county from Templemore this year. However Councillor Wheelan says more are needed, especially coming into the summer season when the county's population increases significantly.
