Fuel rationing is one of the contingency plans being developed by government in the event of a severe oil and gas shortage.
Under the plans being discussed by the Emergency Energy Group, food and medicine producers would also be supported if they experience a serious interruption to supply. Service stations could be tasked with providing fuel to more than 40 categories of emergency and essential workers.
