Derek McGrath on Taking the Helm as New Wexford Senior Hurling Manager

McGrath was officially appointed as Wexford’s new senior hurling manager last month, taking over from Keith Rossiter on a three-year term. Wexford GAA says he was selected following a recruitment process and will now begin preparations for the 2027 inter-county season.

The Waterford native returns to inter-county management having previously spent five seasons in charge of Waterford. During that time, he guided the Déise to the 2017 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship final, as well as successive All-Ireland semi-finals in 2015 and 2016.

McGrath also has previous experience of Wexford hurling, having worked with Faythe Harriers.

His appointment marks a new chapter for Wexford, following Keith Rossiter’s departure after three seasons in charge.

Speaking on Morning Mix this morning, McGrath discussed taking on the role, his ambitions for Wexford and the work that lies ahead as preparations begin for the 2027 season.

Wexford GAA chairman John Kenny has described McGrath as an outstanding coach and leader, highlighting his knowledge of the game and his record in developing players and teams.
