The Central Statistics office has revealed a drop in the number of people unemployed in County Wexford. Figures for December 2013 when compared to the previous year show there's been a 7.5 per cent drop in the number of people on the live register. Nationally, numbers have also dropped - for the 18th month in a row, and is now at its lowest level for four and a half years. Government Chief Whip and Wexford Fine Gael TD Paul Kehoe has welcomed the decline in County Wexford. He says; “Unemployment is on a downward trajectory in Wexford, which is very encouraging." But he says; "the Government fully recognises that unemployment rates remain far too high and that we have a long way to go." He says; "they will continue to work in the year ahead to get key areas – such as retail, construction and domestic banking – back to sustainable levels."
