Motorists are being reminded to check with their pharmacist before driving if they are taking certain prescription medicines.
New drug tests are to be introduced for drivers in March to check for commonly used drugs like valium and sleeping tablets. The Irish Pharmacy Union says there can be side effects from some of these pills which can impact a person's ability to drive safely. Under the new rules Gardai will also be able to check for drugs like cannabis, cocaine and heroin.
