E-Scooter Seized In Gorey

Gardaí in Gorey have seized an illegal e-scooter after reports of dangerous driving by youths in the area. Officers from the Roads Policing Unit witnessed two young riders narrowly avoiding pedestrians while riding on a footpath. The e-scooter, with a top speed of 45 km/h and a 600-watt motor, is classified as a mechanically propelled vehicle under Irish law and cannot be used in public. The rider, under 16, did not have a driving licence or insurance. Gardaí are reminding the public that footpaths are for pedestrians and e-scooters, bicycles and similar vehicles should not be used on them. Owners are advised to check the specifications of their e-scooters and ensure riders are over 16. For legal e-scooter guidelines, visit the RSA or Citizens Information website.
