€46,000 saving for St Joseph’s GAA as water connection charge slashed

St Joseph’s GAA Club in Wexford says a major reduction in the cost of connecting its new community facilities at Whiterock Hill to water services will allow the development to move forward.

Uisce Éireann has reduced the original connection charge from €52,000 to €6,000 — a saving of €46,000 for the club.

The issue had been raised repeatedly with Uisce Éireann and at Government level, including with the Taoiseach, amid concerns over the impact such a large bill could have on the project.

The new facilities at Whiterock Hill will include four modern changing rooms, a referee’s room, accessible facilities, a small shop and a multipurpose area which can be used by local groups.

The club is also developing a walking track around the pitch, which it hopes will provide a safe amenity for people living in the surrounding area.

PRO for St Joseph’s GAA Club, Dane Tyghe, said members are delighted the issue has been resolved and that the club can now take the next steps towards getting the new facilities ready for use.
