Another major fuel protest could be on the cards as frustration grows over the rising cost of petrol, diesel and home heating oil.
A large protest meeting was held in South Wexford on Tuesday night, bringing together farmers, fishermen, hauliers, bus drivers and contractors.
Those attending said fuel costs are placing growing pressure on both businesses and households, with some warning that current prices are becoming increasingly difficult to sustain.
The Government is now being urged to use next week’s Budget to introduce measures aimed at reducing the burden.
Aontú Councillor Jim Codd told South East Radio News that unless prices come down, people may feel they have little choice but to take to the streets again.
Fuel prices have become a major concern for sectors heavily dependent on transport and machinery, while households are also facing higher costs for heating and everyday travel.
Those involved in the meeting say they now want a clear response from Government and meaningful action in the Budget.
