Future of Train Services To Be Discussed At Public Meeting Next Week

A public meeting to discuss the future of rail services in Wexford will be held next week.

Local representatives and train users will gather at Eclectic Avenue in Wexford Town on September 3rd to chat about the challenges to improving the services here.

Many users say the timings of the train don't suit their working lives and that the services themselves are too slow when trying to reach Dublin.

Advocacy group South East On Track will discuss a way forward at the event next Thursday evening.

The issue was recently highlighted by Fine Gael Councillor Robbie Staples who says Wexford is bottom of the list when it comes to daily services to Dublin.

Only 5 daily trains run between Rosslare and the capital with fears that the direct service may be shelved in the near future.

Currently, the earliest train from O'Hanrahan station to Connoly is at 5:59am, arriving at 8:48am which is too late for many commuters.

Meanwhile, there are calls for newer trains to be provided on the Wexford rail line to improve capacity and comfort.

In April, the head of Irish Rail confirmed Wexford relies on the aging 29000 class of railcar compared to the more modern 22000 class used on other Intercity services.
