Garda arrested over leaks made to the media
A garda has been arrested as part of an investigation into the leaking of information to the media. It follows a probe by senior officers into complaints raised in the Roma report by the Children's Ombudsman last July. That report was launched to examine the garda handling of the cases of two blonde Roma children who were removed from their families two years ago on suspicion that they had been abducted. Senior officers were ordered to investigate whether the leak came from within the gardai or the HSE. Reporter with the Irish Examiner, Cormac O'Keeffe, says it was determined that the information most likely came from the gardai. "They spoke to a number of guards that would have been involved in the case one way or another, (they) spoke to them, examined mobile phones, laptops and other equipment as part of their investigation" he said. "So that started at the very beginning of July, and has culminated in an arrest this morning of a garda" he added.
