Gardaí warn of opportunistic thefts from cars across Wexford

Gardaí in Wexford are warning motorists to remain vigilant following a number of thefts from vehicles, with drivers being urged not to leave valuables on display.

Garda Kevin Burke says the thefts appear to be opportunistic, with offenders checking whether cars have been left unlocked.He says people should make sure their vehicles are locked, even when parked for a short period.

“Lock up, light up as well if it’s at night,” Garda Burke said, urging motorists not to leave valuables such as phones, purses, handbags or laptops visible inside their vehicles.

He says laptops are often targeted when they are left on passenger seats.The warning comes as investigations continue into a number of thefts from cars in the county.

In a separate case, Gardaí in Enniscorthy have arrested and charged a man in connection with a number of alleged burglary and theft offences.The man was arrested on August 21st following a number of incidents under investigation. He has since been charged with numerous offences and, after Gardaí objected to bail, was remanded in custody.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Gardaí are continuing to appeal to anyone with information relating to thefts in the county to come forward.
