Gorey Market House Regeneration A Step Closer After Contract Signing

Work is set to begin on the Gorey Market House Regeneration Project after the formal contract signing this week.

Nevin Construction has been awarded the contract to deliver the landmark rebuild of one of the town's most significant historic buildings.

They've been given the job of revitilising one of the oldest market houses in the country with plans to turn it into a vibrant centre for culture, creativity, and community.

Local councillors and members of the construction company attended a special meeting at the Civic Offices in Gorey to sign the contracts on Tuesday.

The new chair of the Gorey Kilmuckridge Municipal District Mary Farrell says it represents the start of an "important new chapter" for the Gorey Market House.

A statement from Wexford County Council says the regenerated Market House will "provide flexible indoor and outdoor spaces for exhibitions, performances, workshops, markets, community events, and cultural activities while carefully preserving the building's rich architectural and historical heritage."

The Cathaoirleach of the council Lisa McDonald says they will work hard to ensure the project "will safeguard the Gorey Market House's Architectural heritage and establish a sustainable, inclusive public amenity for all."

That report was funded by the Local Democracy Reporting Scheme.
