Gorey’s East Coast Sporting Hub: A Model for Multi-Sport Development

In a key Dáil debate on sporting infrastructure, Deputy Malcolm Byrne has discussed the exciting developments around the East Coast Sporting Hub in Gorey, which is set to become a major multi-sport facility for North Wexford. The project, located just north of Gorey Town, is already making waves as a prime example of local partnership between Wexford County Council and various sporting groups. The first phase of the hub will provide dedicated facilities for Gorey Cricket Club, Gorey Hockey Club and Croghan Athletics Club, giving these sports vital homes for training and competition. Deputy Byrne emphasized that the next phase, which will focus on supporting Gorey Cycling Club and basketball, is contingent on securing further funding—an effort he hopes will be supported in the upcoming funding round. Speaking about the project, Byrne praised the collaboration as a “showcase example” of how local authorities and sporting organizations can work together to create a facility that serves multiple sports. He also highlighted how the hub will not only support athletes but will contribute to the local community by promoting health, fitness and well-being. This development represents a significant investment in the future of North Wexford’s sporting infrastructure and is expected to benefit people of all ages and abilities for years to come. “This project is a great example of what can be achieved when local government and sporting bodies come together to support the community,” said Byrne. “I look forward to seeing the hub grow and continue to serve the needs of our athletes.”
