The Government is examining new laws that could limit the number of vape shops operating in towns across Ireland.
Seanad Leader Garret Ahern says there are more than 5,000 licensed vape shops nationwide, with some located in close proximity to one another.
In Wexford town centre, there are currently seven vape shops.
Proposed legislation could give local authorities greater powers to restrict the number of these retailers in their areas.
Ahern says local councillors should have the ability to refuse planning permission for new vape shops, allowing councils to have greater control over where the businesses can operate.
