Halloween Costume Swap Meet To Take Place In Enniscorthy Next Week

We're being encouraged to reuse and recycle our old Halloween costumes this year.

A special event will take place in Enniscorthy next week which will allow families to swap old costumes for something new.

Attendees will be given a voucher equal to the number of clothing items they bring with them and can use that voucher to swap for the same number of costume pieces from another participant.

Tea, coffee and refreshments will also be served during the event.

Sustainable Enniscorthy is hosting the swap meet which will take place at the Captain Wafer Hall in the Springvalley area of the town between 7pm and 8:30pm on Tuesday.

The groups says it's a great way to save money, reduce waste and have some Halloween fun.

Many costumes are used just once as kids outgrow them by the time the next trick or treating opportunity comes around.

It is estimated that over seven million Halloween costumes go to landfill every year.

A 2019 investigation by environmental charity Hubbub into Halloween costumes available from 19 retailers found that 83 per cent of the material used was made from polluting oil-based materials
