The Status Yellow high temperature warning has been extended until Saturday as Ireland continues to experience exceptionally warm weather conditions.
Temperatures of up to 31 degrees are forecast for today, with the possibility that a new all-time national temperature record could be set.
Health authorities are urging the public to take precautions during the hot spell, particularly older people, young children and those with underlying health conditions, who are considered most at risk of dehydration and heat-related illnesses.
People are being advised to drink plenty of water, avoid prolonged periods in direct sunlight during the hottest parts of the day and check in on vulnerable family members, friends and neighbours.
The warning remains in place as forecasters predict the warm conditions will continue over the coming days.
