A homeless man who was jailed for a "heinous" rape in 2006, is being closely monitored by gardaí in Greystones, Co Wicklow, where he has been living in a tent.
John Connors originally from Enniscorthy, Co Wexford, was sentenced last month to 11 months in jail for failing to comply with sex offender notification obligations, but appealed the sentence and was granted bail.
His presence in a public park near where children play football has raised concerns among local residents.
A detective has been assigned to his case, with officers visiting Connors every two days.
Connors, who has 72 previous convictions, was convicted of the rape of a woman in Waterford while her young child was present.
