Newly independent Wexford councillor Joe Sullivan says he has no plans to align with any other political grouping following his departure from Fianna Fáil.
Speaking today on Morning Mix the Gorey area representative said he remains an independent councillor and intends to continue working on that basis.
Sullivan says he stepped away from Fianna Fail after raising concerns about how decisions were made internally.
He claimed there was limited opportunity for open discussion within the group and said key topics were often agreed in advance of meetings.
The councillor said this led to frustration and disagreement over how issues were being handled, particularly when it came to allowing full debate on council motions.
He also said his decision reflects a broader commitment to act independently on issues, adding that he would not follow what he described as a “herd mentality” in politics.
Sullivan insisted he will continue to represent the Gorey Local Electoral Area as an independent councillor and said his focus remains on local issues and his constituents.
He has also ruled out joining any other political alliance at this time.
