Man remanded in custody following Wexford Town robbery charge

A man in his 20s has been charged in connection with a robbery which occurred in Wexford Town on Monday, August 18th.

The man appeared before a sitting of Wexford District Court today, Wednesday, August 19th.Gardaí objected to bail and the man has been remanded in custody.

The charge comes as Gardaí continue to investigate a number of incidents in Wexford Town in recent days.

On Monday, officers responded to reports of a suspected public order incident on South Main Street shortly after midday.Videos purporting to show the incident circulated online, with children seen in the vicinity as people attempted to move through the area.

A man in his 40s was subsequently arrested in connection with that incident.He has been charged and is due to appear before Wexford District Court at a later date. Gardaí say investigations into the incidents remain ongoing.

The latest developments come amid continued concerns from residents and businesses over anti-social behaviour in Wexford Town.

The Wexford Retail Crime Prevention Forum, which represents shop owners in the town, has been calling for an increased Garda presence, particularly during weekend nights.

The group says businesses are being affected by what it describes as a rise in anti-social behaviour, with reports of groups of young people engaging in vocal intimidation, property damage and challenging passers-by.

Local business representatives have been calling for further action to address the issue and improve safety for those working, living and visiting Wexford Town.
