There is concern today that acute mental health services in the south east are to be further reduced.
The Mental Health Commission is understood to be recommending that the fourteen bed unit in Waterford University Hospital be reduced down to six. The leaked document has been seen by the Labour Party leader Brendan Howlin. Speaking on Morning Mix Brendan Howlin said the recommendation is coming as the unit is not fit for purpose. He said mental health services in the south east are back top of the agenda because of the intervention of the Mental Health Commission.
