Minister Commits to Gorey Ambulance Base

Fine Gael TD for North Wexford South Wicklow, Brian Brennan, has received confirmation from the Minister for Health, Jennifer Carroll MacNeill, that the government is fully committed to progressing the Gorey Ambulance Base project. Brennan had previously raised concerns over the lack of infrastructure in the rapidly growing town of Gorey, particularly regarding the critical need for an ambulance base to support local services. During a session in Leinster House, Deputy Brennan emphasized the urgency of the issue, noting that Gorey is one of the fastest-growing towns in Ireland, with a significant increase in population during the summer months. This surge, particularly in areas like Castletown, Courtown and Cahore puts immense pressure on local medical services, including ambulances. Currently, the Gorey Ambulance Crew is operating from prefabricated structures, which Brennan described as "simply unacceptable." Earlier this week, Brennan met with representatives from the National Ambulance Service at their base in Wexford Hospital to discuss key issues, including the need for more resources and improvements to the service. He also raised concerns about the long-awaited Primary Health Care Centre in Gorey, which is currently seeking tenders. Brennan warned that due to rising building costs, the current project model might be unfeasible for developers and called for a review to ensure the project moves forward. The Minister’s commitment to providing a permanent ambulance base for Gorey marks an important step toward addressing the growing healthcare needs of the community.
