Minister James Browne Announces New Family Resource Centre for Enniscorthy

Wexford Minister James Browne, alongside Minister for Children, Disability and Equality, Norma Foley, have today announced the establishment of a new Family Resource Centre (FRC) in Enniscorthy, marking a significant milestone for the town.

The announcement comes as part of the government’s ongoing commitment to expand the network of Family Resource Centres throughout Ireland, as outlined in the Programme for Government. This initiative aims to strengthen community-based support services for families across the country.

The decision follows a comprehensive application and assessment process led by Tusla, with the evaluation independently chaired by a representative from the University of Limerick. Applications were reviewed against a range of criteria, including population need, levels of deprivation, child population data, existing service provisions and identified service gaps.

Templeshannon Community & Childcare Centre stood out in the application process, earning recognition for the important role it plays in supporting families in the Enniscorthy area.

Minister James Browne expressed his delight at the announcement, particularly given the funding secured as part of the Budget 2026 negotiations. Reflecting on his long-standing advocacy for the centre, he said,

“I am delighted to announce the establishment of this new Family Resource Centre for Enniscorthy. A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of showing Minister Norma Foley the fantastic work being done at the Templeshannon Centre. I’ve long campaigned for this recognition because I know firsthand the invaluable service the team provides to families here.

“The Templeshannon team is deeply rooted in the community, and this recognition represents an ongoing investment in the children, families, and communities of Enniscorthy. Becoming an official Family Resource Centre is a huge step forward for them and for the town.”

As part of the Budget 2026 announcement, funding for all Family Resource Centres has been increased. The minimum core funding has risen from €160,000 to €180,000 for 2026, ensuring these centres have the financial support they need to continue their vital work.

The successful applicants, including Templeshannon Community & Childcare Centre, will now receive €180,000 annually. Tusla, along with the Family Resource Centre National Forum, will work closely with the new centres to help them integrate into the national FRC Programme, offering guidance and support to ensure the smooth establishment of these critical community resources.
