A Wexford Senator says he welcomes new tenancy rules beginning on March 1st saying they will strike a good balance for landloards and renters.
The Residential Tenancies Bill 2026 proposes major changes to Ireland’s rental market, including new six-year minimum tenancies aimed at giving renters greater security.
Landlords will be allowed to reset rents to full market rates when a property becomes vacant, while eviction rules are set to tighten particularly for larger landlords.
The proposals have sparked political debate amid concerns about potential rent increases
However, Senator Cathal Byrne says the new rules are designed to balance tenant protections with encouraging more housing supply.
