The National Opera House and Wexford Festival Opera have announced a major investment in new state-of-the-art stage lighting for the O’Reilly Theatre.
The new lighting system will make its debut during this year’s 75th Wexford Festival Opera, which runs from October 15th to 31st.
The investment includes professional moving-light technology from Robe Lighting and is designed to significantly enhance the technical capabilities of the venue.
The new equipment offers improved colour consistency, high-output performance and greater automated functionality, giving production teams more flexibility when staging opera, theatre and other live events.
The system has also been selected with energy efficiency and long-term sustainability in mind.
National Opera House Technical Manager Phil Jennings said the project marks a significant step in the continued development of the venue’s technical infrastructure.
He said the new lighting will help ensure the Opera House can support a wide range of productions into the future while also reducing lifecycle costs.
The fixtures were also chosen because of their compact size, low weight and quiet operation — an important consideration in a venue where maintaining the acoustic quality of the auditorium is essential.
The investment comes in a landmark year for Wexford Festival Opera as it celebrates its 75th anniversary.
The new lighting will be seen in action for the first time when this year’s Festival opens on October 15th.
