New figures show the extent of hospital overcrowding

Latest figures show over 6,000 patients were waiting on trolleys in our hospitals last month. The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation is releasing it's latest survey of Trolley Watch figures for the month of August. The INMO says the results show a six percent reduction compared to the same month last year. Overcrowding increased dramatically everywhere around the country except in Dublin, which saw a reduction numbers. During the month of August the Emergency Departments or Hospitals experiencing the greatest level of overcrowding were: University Hospital Limerick with - 610, Cork University Hospital with - 473 and South Tipperary General Hospital - 470. According to the INMO, these figures are released at a time when the number of delayed discharges has increased to 640 at the end of last week. The figures are also published ahead of the latest meeting of the Emergency Department Taskforce which takes place this afternoon.
