The number of new homes being started in Wexford has more than doubled so far this year, according to the latest figures from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.
The data shows 524 new homes were commenced in the county between January and May 2026, representing a 121% increase on the 237 homes started during the same period last year.
Nationally, 13,120 new homes commenced in the first five months of the year, compared with 5,033 during the same period in 2025.
The latest figures build on strong housing activity in Wexford over the past two years, with 2,683 homes commenced across 2024 and 2025, an increase of 52% on the previous two-year period.
Welcoming the figures, Housing Minister James Browne said the latest data shows housing delivery in Wexford is continuing to move in the right direction, while acknowledging that further effort will be needed to meet future demand.
He said the Government remains committed to accelerating housing delivery through measures including the recently launched €1 billion Housing Infrastructure Investment Fund, aimed at unlocking key residential developments across the country.
