New Ross Fire Service To Host Open Day As Part Of Fire Safety Wexford 2026

New Ross Fire Service will host an Open Day this weekend as part of Fire Safety Week 2026.

The doors of the station will be open to the public as an opportunity to learn more about how firefighters work to keep us safe.

Children of all ages are encouraged to head down and see the facilities for themselves.

The Open Day runs from 1pm to 4pm on Saturday afternoon.

The theme of Fire Safety Week 2026 is about empowering people in the community to look after themselves and others.

Wexford Council Council is also running what it's calling Test It Tuesday to ensure all fire alarms in your house are working properly.

It's asking you to take a moment today to test your alarms and listen to the advice from our firefighters on keeping your home and family safe.

The advice is to always replace batteries when needed and make sure everyone knows the escape plan in case of an emergency.

The National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management is also encouraging everyone to take part in this year’s campaign by looking beyond their own home and checking in on older or more vulnerable members of their community.

Older people living alone remain at greater risk from serious house fires, making it especially important to identify potential fire hazards in the rooms they use every day.

That report was funded by the Local Democracy Reporting Scheme.
