New Ross Municipal District Celebrates Young Artistic Talent with Inaugural Christmas Art Competition

New Ross Municipal District has successfully wrapped up its first-ever Christmas Art Competition, showcasing the creativity and festive spirit of local primary school students. Hundreds of vibrant and imaginative entries were submitted, each capturing the theme of ‘The Meaning of Christmas’ in unique and heartfelt ways. Cathaoirleach of New Ross Municipal District, Cllr. John Dwyer, expressed his gratitude to the participating schools and their pupils, thanking them for their efforts in bringing festive cheer to the town through art. The competition was divided into four age-based categories: Junior & Senior Infants, 1st & 2nd Class, 3rd & 4th Class, and 5th & 6th Class. The overall winner had the exciting honour of switching on the Christmas lights alongside Santa Claus at the Christmas Lights Switch-on Event on Saturday, 29th November 2025. The winners from each category were: - Victoriia Yanevska, 5th Class, Clongeen National School – Winner of the 5th & 6th Class Category - Emmanuella Chinaka, 3rd Class, Raheen National School – Winner of the 3rd & 4th Class Category - Matvii Milkovsky, 1st Class, Ramsgrange National School – Winner of the 1st & 2nd Class Category - C.J. Young, Senior Infants, Scoil Mhuire, Horeswood – Overall Winner, Junior & Senior Infants Category While the competition was free to enter, schools were invited to make voluntary donations to the South East Palliative Care Centre (Oak Ward). The District is deeply thankful for the generous contributions, which will directly support the vital care and services provided by Oak Ward to families and patients in the region, especially during the holiday season. The stunning artwork submissions are now on display at New Ross Public Library, where they can be viewed by the public until Christmas. Special thanks were extended to the library staff for their support in hosting this festive exhibition, and to Ciaran Brennan, the judge, who had the tough task of selecting the winning entries. The New Ross Municipal District looks forward to making the Christmas Art Competition an annual event, continuing to highlight the incredible artistic talent of young people in the community during the holiday season.
