New RSV Immunisation Appointments Available for Wexford Parents

The HSE Dublin and South East has announced new appointments for RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) immunisation clinics in Wexford, providing an opportunity for parents to protect their babies from serious RSV infections this winter. Parents of babies born between March 1 and August 31, 2025, who did not receive the vaccine in September, are strongly encouraged to book an appointment as soon as possible. The new clinics will be available from November 17 to December 12, 2025 and appointments can be made starting today, November 11, 2025. Dr. Emer Liddy, Public Health Specialist Registrar at HSE Dublin and South East, emphasizes the importance of this immunisation, stating, "RSV immunisation is the safest and most effective way to protect your baby this winter." RSV is a leading cause of hospitalisations and serious illness in young babies, with many requiring special care, including intensive treatment. The HSE's free immunisation clinics in Wexford are designed to make it easy for parents to ensure their babies are protected against this potentially dangerous virus. The RSV immunisation, nirsevimab, has proven to be highly effective, significantly reducing hospital admissions and the impact of the virus. Last year, 83% of eligible parents accepted the immunisation, and there was a dramatic decrease in RSV-related hospitalisations and emergency department visits. The vaccine is administered as a single jab in the baby’s leg, providing protection for up to 150 days. Parents of babies born between March 1 and August 31, 2025, can book an appointment through the HSE’s website at RSV Immunisation Booking (https://www2.hse.ie/conditions/rsv/immunisation/) . Parents of babies born from September 1, 2025, will be offered the immunisation when leaving the maternity hospital. If you missed this offer, you can still arrange an appointment by contacting @HSElive.
