Families from across Wexford rolled up their sleeves to explore soil science in action as ‘Changing Farming Fortunes’ officially opened at Johnstown Castle.
The exhibition places soil research at the heart of Ireland’s agricultural story, highlighting how scientific breakthroughs transformed food production.
Young visitors took part in hands-on workshops led by Teagasc soil scientists, learning how nutrients, testing and research shape the land beneath our feet. The exhibition also celebrates the legacy of Dr Tom Walsh, whose pioneering work at the National Soils Laboratory helped modernise Irish farming.
This is the first of four new permanent exhibitions planned for the museum, with further developments set to roll out across 2026 and 2027 — creating a more immersive and engaging visitor experience for all ages.
