North Wexford Fine Gael TD Brian Brennan has strongly emphasized the importance of voting. With just two days to go to the presidential election he is urging all eligible people to exercise their right at the polls. “Whatever your political affiliation, whatever your age, voting is the only way you're going to make a difference,” he stated. The North Wexford TD has expressed his concern over some individuals promoting the idea of spoiling votes, stating, “Voting is the foundation of our democracy. If you don't vote, you're letting others choose who represents you.” His comments come on a week when another North Wexford TD, Fianna Fail's Malcolm Byrne urged voters to give their first preference to Jim Gavin, despite his withdrawal from the race and their second preference to Heather Humphreys. Despite the withdrawal, Gavin’s name remains on the ballot and Deputy Byrne insists it is crucial for party supporters to turn out and vote. “Jim Gavin may have stepped down, but his name is still there and it’s vital that Fianna Fáil voters don’t stay at home. It’s a vote for our values, a vote for the future of Ireland,” Byrne said. “If you feel uneasy about not voting for a Fianna Fáil candidate, vote Gavin first and then Heather Humphreys second. It’s a pragmatic way to show our strength, even in difficult times.” Fine Gael's Brian Brennan also spoke on Morning Mix & has criticized the current presidential election process, calling it too restrictive and leading to negative campaigning between the two candidates. He believes the system needs reform, including a broader selection of candidates to avoid personal attacks. He once more emphasised that voting is a fundamental pillar of democracy and must be respected.
