A New Ross councillor has raised concerns about the impact of above-the-shop apartments, as the Government looks to maximise the use of vacant space over commercial premises to help address the housing crisis.
It comes as figures show there are 71 derelict buildings across the New Ross District, with the above-the-shop initiative aimed at bringing these properties back into use and increasing housing supply.
However, Councillor John Dwyer says the plans are creating challenges locally — particularly around parking — with many residents struggling to find spaces for their cars.
Speaking on Morning Mix with Alan Corcoran, he says there are simply not enough parking spaces available to meet demand.
