Over 600 Footpath Parking Fines Issued In Wexford Last Year

More than 600 fines were issued in County Wexford last year for vehicles parked on footpaths according to new figures from Vision Ireland.

The charity says Wexford County Council issued 606 fines for footpath parking in 2025.

Vision Ireland says cars parked on footpaths can create serious difficulties for people who are blind or vision impaired particularly where pedestrians are forced to step off the path and into live traffic.

In a survey carried out as part of its Clear Our Paths campaign, 69% of respondents said parked cars were the most common obstacle blocking their route, while 65% said they caused the greatest difficulty when navigating footpaths.

Nationwide, more than 21,000 fines were issued for parking on footpaths last year.

Vision Ireland says fines alone will not solve the problem and is urging motorists to think about how blocking a footpath can affect people with disabilities.

The issue of accessibility and the everyday obstacles faced by people living with disability is also one of the topics being explored on tonight’s edition of South East Radio’s Shine a Light.

In a special programme entitled Walk in My Shoes, Eimear Mulhall, who is blind and Karina Browne, who is living with an acquired brain injury, speak about the challenges they face in everyday life and how seemingly small obstacles can have a major impact.

Eimear in particular highlights this very issue and says she herself has been forced to walk out onto the road due to vehicles blocking her path
