People in Wexford aged 65 and over are being urged to contact the fire service to take advantage of the Free Home Fire Safety Check scheme.
Members of the fire service will come to your home and provide practical fire safety advice and help identify potential risks in the property.
The installation of smoke alarms comes as part of the service which is also available for people living with disabilities including those who are hard of hearing.
It's all part of Fire Safety Week run by Wexford County Council which is encouraging people to have a fire escape plan for your home and make sure you practice it reguarly.
Wexford Fire Service says they attend around 100 domestic call outs every year ranging from chimney fires to “homes fully ablaze.”
Homeowners are being reminded a few simple steps can reduce the risk of a house fire and that small actions can make a big difference.
You're being asked to:
• Check your appliances regularly
• Clean lint trays and toaster crumb trays
• Unplug hair straighteners, curling irons, irons and toasters when not in use
• Check cables for damage and replace any worn or frayed leads
