Pension cuts set to be returned
The Government's agreed to begin returning pension cuts made to retired public servants during the financial crisis. The Cabinet's signed off on a proposal from the Public Expenditure Minister, Wexford's Brendan Howlin, today targeted at those on low pensions. Around 90,000 public sector pensioners will benefit at a cost of about 90 million euro over three years. Under the plan they'll receive around 400 euro next January, 500 euro in 2017 and 780 euro in 2018.
