Primary Care Centre Site For New Ross To Be Revealed Next Week

A site has been identified for the new Primary Care centre in New Ross.

The exact location of the new centre is set to be revealed next week but it's set to include a doctor's surgery, HSE and Tusla facilities and car parking.

Representatives of the town have long been calling for the project to get up and running so residents don't have to travel to Waterford for healthcare.

Chairman of the New Ross Municipal District John Fleming says it's great to see them overcome a major hurdle like this:

"I was talking to the HSE recently and yes, a prefered site has been identified which is good news.

"I can't really reveal it, we're having a full meeting next Thursday and hopefully I'll be able to say more then."

The long delayed project has been mired in red tape and set backs in recent years but there are hopes that there could be a light at the end of the tunnel.

Chairman Fleming says it's a relief to see it finally on track for delivery:

"They have to go through the processes still, a property review group and then onto the board so it's slightly behind.

"Gorey's one is probably about a month ahead of it, I'm hoping for action early next year and then we'll head into the problems with staffing and such but we're just looking to get it moving first."

Its exact location will be revealed next week following a meeting of HSE officials and local representatives.

Councillor Fleming says residents of the town have been waiting for good news like this for a long time:

"Everyone's waiting on this for years and we've had some false dawns before. So we really want to see it progressing this time because it'll be a huge benefit.

"I think they're going to make it a very efficient building process by making shared and flexible rooms so it'll be a huge addition."
