Public Consultation Opened For New Roundabout Scheme For Gorey

Plans for the long awaited Ballyloughan Roundabout in Gorey are available for public consultation.

Wexford County Council is proposing to construct a new roundabout at the busy junction of the R772 and L5032 at the turn for the business park. 

As part of the proposed scheme, traffic calming measures will be installed along with a permanent 60km/h speed limit.

New footpaths and cycle lanes will also be constructed while new lighting will be erected and improvements will be made to the surface water drainage systems in the area.

Drawings of the proposed changes can be viewed on the council's website and submissions can be made until Friday 25th of September.

Local councillor Craig Doyle is welcoming the plans saying improving safety at the junction should be a priority.

Residents of the area agree and say the area at the minute is quite dangerous.

Drivers leaving the Ballymoney Road and attempting to merge onto the very busy Old N11 face significant danger, particularly during peak traffic periods.

Previous attempts to build a roundabout in the area proved unsuccessful after the plans were struck down by An Coimisun Pleanala.

The previous iteration of the scheme was given planning permission in 2024 but that was overturned after concerns were raised about flooding issues in the area.
