Road Closure To Be Lifted At Ferry Bridge This Month But Works Remain Into September

Kilkenny County Council says the works on the Ferry Bridge outside New Ross are on schedule.

The historic structure on the River Barrow is a key link between Kilkenny and Wexford and has been closed to traffic since the 24th of June.

The road closure is due to finish on August 28th however KCC says works will carry on for another month with traffic management in place.

New Ross residents say the closure has affected business in the town while a number of accidents have been reported on diversion routes.

KCC says it will provide weekly updates on the progress of the works so drivers can plan their schedules.

Speaking to KCLR, Director of Services with Kilkenny County Council Mary Mulholland said this will also help combat the misinformation around the project in recent weeks.

Local councillors here say they want to see more progress on the works and better communication between the two councils.

New Ross councillor John Dwyer says the diversion routes are dangerous after his daughter was involved in an incident there some weeks ago.

Motorists are being advised to take extra care when using alternative routes in the area while works on the Ferry Bridge continue.
