Rural Water Schemes To Be Upgraded As Part Of Rural Water Capital Programme

Community groups can now apply for funding to improve drinking water quality, resilience and reliability for their areas.

The application process for the Rural Water Capital Programme 2027-2029 is now open for residents of County Wexford.

This is the next cycle of the Multi Annual Rural Water Programme with the Government set to provide €175 million in investment to upgrade water and sewerage works in remote or cutoff areas.

The funding was announced by Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne and Minister of State with special responsibility for Nature, Heritage and Biodiversity, Christopher O’Sullivan on 27th July.

The money will be used to upgrade water services for communities that are not connected to Uisce Éireann networks.

Wexford County Council says the funding "supports targeted capital investment across source protection, treatment infrastructure, network improvements, amalgamation or rationalisation, scheme extensions and extensions to existing community connections."

It's also warning that funding for amalgamation and/or rationalisation of Group Water Schemes is only available to existing Group Water Schemes and new ones won't be considered.

The closing date for applications is Wednesday 30th of September at 5pm.
