Sage Advocacy is reaching out to survivors of institutional abuse in Wexford to offer support through its nationwide information and advocacy services. The organisation invites anyone who spent time in a state-run institution such as an industrial or reformatory school, Magdalene laundry, mother and baby home, or county home, to contact them for confidential assistance.
Sage Advocacy offers survivors access to vital services, including support with housing, medical care, finances and more.
The service is available free of charge and can be accessed by calling 01 536 7330 or emailing info@sageadvocacy.ie.
According to Sage Advocacy CEO Bibiana Savin, there are no age restrictions and no need to have previously received redress in order to receive support. Survivors can work one-on-one with an advocate who is dedicated to promoting their voice and rights. Advocates act based solely on the survivor’s consent ensuring that they have control over the process.
Sage also highlighted the importance of offering trauma-informed care, recognising the ongoing challenges faced by survivors, especially in older age when issues like housing and medical care can become even more pressing.
The service is confidential, independent of family members and service providers and ensures that the survivor’s best interests are always the priority.
