The Samaritans are calling on the Wexford community to help provide a dedicated space for volunteers to offer essential support. With the increasing demand for services, they are looking for a secure, local space in Wexford Town where volunteers can provide confidential support to those in need. Rory Fitzgerald, a Samaritan volunteer for over 15 years, highlighted the growing need for local services. While the Samaritans already have a volunteer network in Wexford, a physical location would allow them to provide even more direct, in-person support. The Samaritans’ helpline is available nationwide, but Wexford residents would benefit from a local office. A secure room in Wexford Town would allow volunteers to support callers in person, making it easier for those struggling with issues like mental health, loneliness and relationship problems to reach out for help.
