Taoiseach Micheál Martin is in Enniscorthy today to assess the damage caused by flooding in the aftermath of Storm Chandra. The storm, which brought heavy rainfall on already saturated ground, led to widespread flooding, particularly in Wexford, where homes, businesses, and streets were left submerged.
In Enniscorthy, the River Slaney burst its banks, causing significant damage, including the closure of the town centre and cars being stranded. The Slaney River came close to reaching its record high water levels, which were last seen during the devastating floods of 2000.
Martin is expected to visit areas in Carlow, Wexford, and Kilkenny today to see the full extent of the damage.
Tánaiste Simon Harris has assured the public that the government is providing immediate financial assistance to those affected, while also emphasising the need for long-term solutions to prevent future flooding. The ongoing challenges in towns like Enniscorthy highlight the urgency for more effective flood relief measures.
