Taoiseach rejects ibrc inquiry criticism

The Taoiseach has rejected criticism from opposition leaders about plans for the inquiry into IBRC, saying judges are not 'the pawns' of government. The Cabinet will this morning sign off on the terms of reference for the Commission of Investigation into dealings at the former Anglo Irish Bank, which will not report back until December. That has led to accusations from the opposition of an attempt to shut down debate about IBRC until after the next general election. Taoiseach Enda Kenny says the judge appointed to carry out the investigation will be completely independent of the Government. "I think it's important to say that in this country, judges are not the pawns of any minister and they're not the pawns of any government" he said. "So if you decide to have an independent Commission of Investigation, once you sign off on the terms of reference, it becomes the responsibility of the sole member" he added.
