Trees for Wexford Campaign To Return Next Month

The Trees For Wexford Campaign will open again next month.

The scheme sees voluntary groups apply to the council for the allocation of trees, hedging and saplings to spruce up their areas.

The greenery must be planted in a public place while A group can apply for one of the following options:

• Maximum of 6 trees 
• Maximum of 200 hedging
• Maximum of 200 of any combination of hedging / native hedgerow plants/ whips/ saplings

Council officials say the number of trees allocated to each voluntary group will depend on budget and number of applications received.

They are warning that "every effort will be made to facilitate all applications" but are asking the public to be aware that "the scheme may be oversubscribed and it may be necessary to reduce the number of trees/hedging/saplings given to each group or not all applications will be successful."

Once approval has been granted, the voluntary groups will be responsible for the collection of trees from the Holmestown Waste Management Facility.

The planting and maintenance of the trees will also be the responsibility of the successful voluntary group.

The application process will open shortly in early September with a closing date of Friday 25th September.

The campaign is a long running one for Wexford County Council with over 100 voluntary groups taking part in 2004 when over 1,780 trees were given out and planted.
