Two weather warnings for snow and ice in effect
We are being reminded to check in on elderly friends and neighbours as snow arrives in most parts of the country today. Age Action is warning that cold weather can and does kill in Ireland, as well as posing problems for the elderly community who could find it difficult to go out to buy groceries, fuel or medical supplies. Met Éireann says significant snow showers have already been reported in many areas this morning. Spokesman Eoin Sherlock says there is a wintry day ahead - and there is little goodNews for tomorrow. "The western half of the country and parts of the north of the country will experience some snow showers today, and there'll be further snow showers for the rest of the day and overnight" he said. "And it's probably going to be around this time tomorrow before the last of the wintry showers pull away". "Unfortunetly, it's going to be replaced by very strong winds and very wet weather as the system rolls in from the Atlantic". "So not much of a respite, I'm afraid" he added.
