The Society of St Vincent de Paul expects to receive more than fifty thousand calls for help in the coming weeks.
Collections for the charity were held across the Diocese of Ferns over the weekend. The society says it's getting the same number of appeals as it did during the recession. It's also urging people in need of a loan to cover the cost of Christmas to turn to the local credit union for help, rather than a money lender or high interest loan company.
