Water Supply Upgrades Completed In Parnell Avenue, Enniscorthy

Residents in Parnell Avenue in Enniscorthy are set to benefit from a more reliable and improved water supply following the completion of upgrade works by Uisce Éireann.

The works were carried out as part of the national Leakage Reduction Programme and involved replacing ageing backyard water mains which had become vulnerable to leaks and bursts.

More than 179 metres of new water mains were installed along the public road, while new service connections were also provided to customers in the area.

Older backyard connections were commonly made from iron or lead and often ran through neighbouring properties, making leaks difficult to detect and repair.

Because a number of homes could share the same connection, a burst or leak could also result in reduced water pressure across a wider area.

Uisce Éireann says the new infrastructure will improve water quality, reduce leakage and provide a more reliable supply for residents in Parnell Avenue.

Housing Minister and Wexford TD James Browne welcomed the completion of the works, saying a dependable water supply is essential for families and communities and that the project represents further progress in upgrading Wexford’s water network.

Uisce Éireann’s Dave Murphy also thanked residents for their cooperation while the works were being carried out, particularly where access to properties was required.

The utility says national leakage levels have now fallen from 49 per cent in 2014 to 36 per cent, their lowest level on record.

The Enniscorthy works form part of ongoing investment in reducing leaks and improving the resilience of water networks across the country.
