A number of waxwings have been sighted in recent days along the east coast.
The birds have been spotted in Wexford and right up along the coast as far as Antrim. It believed freezing temperatures across Europe have pushed the birds westwards in search of food. While the are always some sightings of the waxwing at this time each year, flocks are exceptionally high this winter. The birds are distinguished by the red tips on their wings.
