A Status Yellow Weather Warning has been issued for strong winds and heavy rain affecting the southeast and it’s already making its presence felt. This morning, a low-pressure system has brought winds of up to 90 km/h and heavy rain, creating challenging conditions for morning commuters. Alan O'Reilly, from Carlow Weather, says the worst of the weather will hit over the next few hours, with winds expected to ease off later today. "It’s a rough start to the morning, with heavy rain and gusts of up to 90 km/h, but things should improve by lunchtime," he said. Winds will drop off and there will be sunny spells throughout the afternoon. However, this isn’t the end of the bad weather. According to Alan, more rain and wind are on the way, with up to 50mm of rain expected by the weekend. Tomorrow, gusts of up to 70 km/h are forecast but the wind won’t be as intense as today. The rain will continue tomorrow and Saturday is looking particularly wet. Roads could become hazardous particularly with heavy rainfall so Wexford residents are urged to take extra care when driving. Fortunately, temperatures will remain above freezing, so there’s no risk of icy conditions, though the wet roads could still be dangerous. The low-pressure system affecting the region is expected to keep the weather unsettled for the next several days, bringing more rain and wind.
